Civilians killed during a deadly terrorist attack in Manipur
by Ahana Barthwal
During a recent ambush by terrorists near the Manipur and Myanmar border, an Assam Rifles Colonel was killed alongside his wife, eight-year-old son, and four soldiers. This particular terrorist attack was extremely fatal, in fact, one of the most lethal ones in recent times, and occurred at 11 am in Churachandpur, Manipur.
“Five soldiers including Colonel Viplav Tripathi, Commanding Officer of 46 Assam Rifles, have made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. The family of the Commanding Officer - wife and child - also lost their lives. DG and all ranks of Assam Rifles offer condolences to the brave soldiers and families," stated the Assam Rifles.
This happens to be the first time civilians have passed away due to an ambush in that area since it’s an extremely remote village located approximately 50 kilometres from Churachandpur.
In a statement made by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, he strongly condemned the attack and offered his solace, “The cowardly attack on an Assam Rifles convoy in Churachandpur, Manipur is extremely painful and condemnable. The nation has lost 5 brave soldiers including CO 46 AR and two family members. My condolences to the bereaved families. The perpetrators will be brought to justice soon.”
THE PADMA AWARDS AREN’T JUST FOR THE ELITE
by Annika Jain
The Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri are the highest awards - apart from the Bharat Ratna - any civilian can receive. These awards mainly recognize people who have come far in their field of work which can include social work, science, medicine, literature and many more.
The winner’s list proves that the elite are not the only ones who receive this award. The stories of the winners are extremely inspiring - from the barefoot environmentalist Karnataka Tulasi who has planted over 30,000 trees in her lifetime and the transgender artist Manjamma Jogati, these people truly honour India.
I’m sure you must have heard of the industrialist, Anand Mahindra, someone who would have been considered as someone worthy of the awards a few years ago. Even he tweeted that he felt “undeserving” of the awards in comparison to these people.
