Elon Musk Sells Tesla Shares Worth $6.9 Billion
By Kabir Choudhuri-Khan
Elon Musk, who is a South-African billionaire, sold 5.1 million shares on the votes of a Twitter poll he conducted, where millions of votes were cast that influenced his decision.
On the 7th of November, he tweeted “Much is made lately of unrealized gains being a means of tax avoidance, so I propose selling 10% of my Tesla stock. Do you support this?" To which the votes that were cast were almost 58% in the affirmative. A few days later, Musk did so.
Out of these 5.1 million shares, 4.2 million were held in a trust. Following this, Tesla’s sales have been plummeting since the Wall Street opening on Monday, and its share price has slumped by 15.4 percent.
Elon Musk still holds 167 million shares in the company, and is currently the richest person in the world, with, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, $294 billion.
TRAILBLAZERS - People Who Inspire Us
Mr. Kalyan Karmakar, Food & Travel Writer
Why did you pick this profession?
I loved writing since my childhood. I love food too. I was looking for something which allowed me to address both these interests and that is when food writing seemed like a good idea.
What does a normal working day for you look like?
I am a freelance writer and I work from home. So I wake up. Feed my cats. Have something nice for breakfast. Then check my emails and social media channels to see if there is anything I need to address. Then I begin to write. Sometimes I have assignments. At other times I write about topics of my interest. I would step out during or after lunch to check out new places though not now because of the pandemic. I write in the evening again. Then step out for a walk. Spend the rest of the day reading. Watch shows on Netflix etc.
Did you have to study anything specific for this profession?
I had studied sociology in college and did my MBA after that. That training helps me analyse food in a certain manner. I used to work in market research before I began food writing and that training helped too but no, I have not studied something specific to get into food writing.
What tips and advice they would give to students pursuing this profession
As it is with any profession, you have to be passionate about the subject. Try to study and learn more about it. You need to develop your style of thinking and have clarity on what you want to achieve through your work. Above all, enjoy it.
