ROE vs WADE Explained
By Ishana Katriar
In the United States, the news that has spread across the globe swiftly is about the Roe V. Wade Law and how the Supreme Court has overruled it. This is an extremely sensitive topic, but it’s the reality of many women in the US right now. Many are confused and don’t understand, and the hope of this article is too clear it up so you can be aware of the situation right now.
Roe V Wade has been an American law since 1973. It’s the name of a lawsuit that led to the 1973 decision where the US Supreme Court officially established the right to abortion. The law states that women in the US have the right to choose to have safe abortions without government restrictions. At the time where Roe V Wade was established, abortion was largely illegal throughout the States. 30 states banned abortion completely, and the other only started allowing residents to obtain them.
The law started with a woman known as Jane Roe (real name being Norma McCorvey) who was a Texas women in her early 20s. Being unemployed, unmarried and pregnant again, she wanted to have an abortion, but at the time, Texas law said that the procedure was only allowed if it would save the mothers life. In 1970, Roe’s lawyers filed a lawsuit against Henry Wade, who was the district attorney. This case eventually came to the Supreme Court becoming a national case. This has become into the law we know as Roe V Wade, which is a subsection that deals with abortions.
In 2022, a draft made by Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito was leaked, where he gave his opinion about un-regulating abortions. This causes a major uproar and made people question if Roe V Wade who soon be overturned.
“Roe was egregiously wrong from the start. It’s reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences” wrote Justice Samual Alito. In a gist, the opinion piece talked about Roe V Wade being poorly established.
Now, a new change of reality has been brought across America yesterday. The legal right was outlawed in some states. Across the country, abortion clinics have had to cancel all appointments and shut down. Women are making plans to cross state lines into places where abortion is still allowed right now. Many women are calling organisations to understand the laws effects and the financial trouble. Many women are talking about how this will effect the future generations of America.
Centres and organisations are outrages by the new ruling. Planned Parenthood has files a lawsuit for the State. Residents and citizens of the country are trying to understand the confusing new settlements that have come across because of this law.
This has definitely causes global uproar, and there are many different sides to this opinion since it’s something extremely sensitive and a choice that every Individual has to grapple with. The sudden change of this does mean that many young women out there are in danger. Every abortion situation is different. While this is only happening in one country right now and might not effect us directly, as a global community it’s important to acknowledge the effects that this will have for the future generations. Be safe, healthy and know your fundamental rights.
You can support all the women out there by donating to safe-abortion organisations, being safe, and be informed about the issue.

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry drama
Katy Perry and Taylor Swift started off as friends, supporting and admiring one another.
But things went downhill when a dancer who said he had previously worked for Katy Perry left Taylor’s tour early to be a part of Katy Perry’s “Prism” tour.
When the 1989 song “Bad Blood” was released, Taylor said to the Rolling Stone that the song happened to be about a certain artist.
“For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not,” Taylor said in a statement. “[Then] she did something so horrible. She basically tried to sabotage the entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me.”
Grammy award organisers were trying to keep Taylor and Katy away from each other and avoid meeting during the awards show.
In Katy Perry’s song, “Swish Swish” (featuring Nicki Minaj), a few of the lyrics are “don’t you come for me” and “your game is tired, you should retire”.
But, in 2019, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift forgave each other and put the feud behind them. To seal their friendship, in Taylor’s song, “You Need To Calm Down”, Katy Perry was featured in the video, and the pair even hugged each other!
